Cultural diversity is a basic feature of human society, and an important driving force for human progress. It is ever more important and urgent to protect and promote cultural diversity today, Protecting and promoting cultural diversity has been put on many countries’ agenda in the process of cultural development and cultural cooperation. In the background of economic globalization, cultural exchanges and cooperation is increasingly prosperous. Different countries, regions and ethnics are trying to maintain their cultural autonomy, while exploring the way to blend and complement each other, so as to achieve world prosperity and build a win-win world culture. Under this background, World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) was established as a national civil society to integrate overseas talent, institutional and other resources, through a wide variety of cultural activities, to create a high-class platform for cultural exchanges between east and west. It respects cultural diversity and helps to maintain world harmony. While adhering to Chinese culture, World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is dedicated to promote exchanges, increase consensus, strengthen cooperation, and seek common development with other countries.

On March 12th, 2008, upon approval by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is founded as Chinese first high-level and non-governmental international cultural organization initiated independently and given FORUM as its name, with China Federation of Literary and Art Circles as its organization manager. Mr. Yan Zhaozhu, Former Chief of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Policy Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee, is the incumbent Legal Representative, Executive Chairman and Secretary-General of TCF.

In March 2008, TCF started preparing for the 1st annual conference-“Dialogue and Cooperation for World Harmony and Common Development”.

On July 25th, 2008, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles decided to be the organizer of the 1st annual conference.

In December 2009, Zhang Meiying, Sun Jiazheng, Vice chairman of CPPCC national committee, former vice chairman of the standing committee of the National People's Congress Xu Jialu agreed to serve as honorary President of TCF.

On May 11th, 2011, press conference of 1st annual conference held at the State Council Information Office. 46 media from home and abroad participate in the press conference, responded enthusiastically.

In May 2011, World Cultural Forum(Taihu, China) invited Jusuf Wanandi, Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees CSIS Foundation in Indonesia; Andre Azoulay, the Counselor of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI(Morocco) and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Anna Lindh Foundation; Ervin Laszlo, President of the Club of Budapest in Hungary; Robert A. Mundell, “Father of the Euro”,  the recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics and Professor of Columbia University to serve as the Honorary Executive Member of TCF.

On May 18th to 19th, 2011, the 1st Annual Conference of World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) was held successfully in Suzhou.  Chinese and foreign guests from 31 countries and regions around the world including Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee Liu Yandong, prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani of Pakistan attended the conference and delivered speeches.

On June 7th to 8th, 2012, the High-level Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Development of the World Cultural ForumTaihu,China) was held successfully in Nanchang. Li Keqiang sent his congratulations messages to this conference, Chinese and foreign guests from 20 countries and regions around the world including Vice Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Sapardurdy Toylyev and Former President of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong attended the conference and delivered speeches.

On May 18th to 19th, 2013, the second annual conference of the World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) was successfully held in Hangzhou  its theme is "Strengthen International Cooperation for Ecological Civilization". Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Yu Zhengsheng delivered the kenote address at the opening ceremony, President of the Republic of Mozambique Armando Emilio Guebuza, Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda Dame Louise Lake-tack,Greek Prime Minister Antonis SamarasFormer Prime minister of the Netherlands Rudolphus Franciscus Marie Lubbers, Vice Chairman of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Zhang Meiying, Secretary of the CPC’s Zhejiang Provincial Committee Xia Baolong attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. About 500 politicians, natural scientists, social scientists and eminent persons from 23 countries attended the conference.

On June 26th, 2013, the Second Council of TCF was held in Beijing, Second Council President, Vice President, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary-General were elected and appointed in the meeting.  Former Executive Chairman and Secretary General Yan Zhaozhu was elected as the President; Executive member of TCF and President at the Institute of World Religions of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Zhuo Xinping, executive member of TCF and Chairman of China Tianhan Foundation Su Shuyang, executive member of TCF and Chairman of Jiangzhong Pharmaceutical Group Co.Ltd. Zhong Hongguang being Vice-Presidents; Former Deputy Secretary-General Zheng Chuanxin was appointed as the Secretary-General; Editor-in-chief of Chinese Writers' Association Zhangling, Secretary- general of Shanghai international culture communication association Yu Huiyu, Director Shanghai Hangjian Economical Develpoment Center Jin Haijun were appointed as Deputy Secretary-Generals.

From March 31 to April 1, 2014, the 2014 Paris Conference of World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) themed as “the Silk Road—Eternal Path to the Cultural Communications Between China and the West” was successfully held in Paris, France. The conference was co-sponsored by World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China), China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Gansu Provincial People’s Government, Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, and Foundation “Prospective and Innovation”. Vice President of the French Senate, former Prime Minister of France, and Honorary Chairman of TAIHU WORLD CULTURAL FORUM Raffarin,Vice Chairwomen of the 11th CPPCC and Honorary Chairman of Taihu World Cultural Forum Zhang Meiying, Member of the Standing Committee of Gansu Province and Head of Gansu Propaganda Department Lian Ji, and Curator of Musée Guimet Sophie Makariou made speeches at the opening ceremony. Politicians, scholars, and media professionals from several countries participated in the conference and discussion.

On May 27, 2014, approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) was officially renamed as Taihu World Cultural Forum, to enable the important domestic organization engaged in cultural diplomacy to play a greater role worldwide and better bring Chinese culture to the world.

From June 18-19, 2014, the World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) themed as “Strengthen Cultural Soft Power Interaction, Promote World Peace and Development” was successfully held in Shanghai. The conference was co-sponsored by World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China), China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Han Zheng delivered the welcome speech in the opening ceremony. Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Liu Yandong, President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso, former Prime Minister of France Dominique de Villepin, former Taoiseach of Ireland Bertie Ahem, Vice Chairwomen of the 11th CPPCC and Honorary Chairman of World Cultural Forum(Taihu, China)Zhang Meiying, the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilization Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, and Buddhist Master Xingyun participated the ceremony and gave speeches. Politicians, famous scholars, leaders of enterprises, and media professionals from over 20 countries participated in the conference and discussion.

On November 13 and 14, 2014, High-level Conference on the Protection and Development of Global Traditional Medicine Culture 2014 (Macao), which is around the theme that Innovating and Developing Traditional Medicine, Marching Toward a New Era of Ecological Civilization has been successfully held in Macao Special Administration Region. Chinese and foreign leaders have attended the opening ceremony, including Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Fernando CHUI Sai On, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress CHEN Zhu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace of the Kingdom of Cambodia H.E. Samdech Chaufea Veang KONG SOM OL. On the Opening Ceremony, Director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China, Deputy Director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China WANG Guoqiang delivered a theme speech and President of World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China), former Director of the Cultural Research Bureau of the Communist Party Central Committee YAN Zhaozhu delivered the keynote speech. About 1,000 participants, including medical experts,scientists, politics and guests from all walks of lives from 20 countries and regions attended the conference and participated in various discussions.
